We went on pandemic lockdown in March 2020. I drew this on 9 April and finished on 26 April. My plan to travel to Paris was cancelled but that was a minor problem compared to the illnesses and deaths that were occurring around the world.
In the middle of the process, I changed the composition to include the face of the health care worker. I would not have been so bold without the generous workshop comments of old friend, artist, and poet Donato Mejia Alvarez, who followed progress on Facebook Messenger.
This is a composite of several photos I saw online and from my friends. The background colors beige and green, are the colors of the hospital where I trained. There are no Philippine textiles visible on the painting. I imagine they are under the PPE 🙂
